The Fire Detection and Warning System is designed for the Light Combat Aircraft to provide reliable detection of overheat and fire conditions. The active element is a continuous dual-core sensing cable; rising temperature produces a signal that is transmitted to a control unit, which activates an alarm when the sensing cable crosses a preset reference value. Sensing cables are joined by interconnecting cables into a loop circuit to protect engine and fuselage sections. A break in any sensing or interconnecting cable does not disable the system — it continues to respond to overheat and fire. The system operates at low resistance and monitors on two lines, producing an ANDed output to avoid false warnings.
